It thrives with good air circulation, so its best kept outside of containers with small openings. When fully mature, magnusiana can reach the size of a sofball. Tillandsia magnusiana produces a short, squat bloom spike with relatively few flowers, giving the inflorescence a rounded, globose appearance.

Native to southern and western Mexico (including Jalisco, Veracruz, Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Chiapas), as well as El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Honduras, T. magnusiana thrives in these regions' varied climates.
